An internship is a structured work experience designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world application. It allows students to apply their academic knowledge in professional settings, gaining hands-on experience in the process. Internships can be paid or unpaid, depending on the employer, and offer flexible timeframes to suit both the student and the business.
What is an Internship?
Who can participate in Student Internships?
High school juniors and seniors who are at least 16 years old and on track with their credits are eligible to participate in a student internship.
Key Reasons to Offer Internships
Provide Hands-On Experiences
Internships give students the chance to work directly in their chosen field, helping them develop practical skills that complement their education. It allows them to engage with real projects and see how businesses operate.
Develop Soft Skills
In addition to technical skills, internships help students build crucial soft skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and time management—abilities that are essential for any career.
Strengthen School-Business Connections
Internships create strong partnerships between schools and local businesses. These collaborations benefit both sides by preparing students for the workforce while giving businesses access to enthusiastic, trainable talent.
