We’re thrilled to introduce this great new concept to your school! This year, we’re accepting entries for grades 4th and 5th.
The idea behind this event is to help educate the kids in HEALTHY EATING HABITS. Too often we hear about kids not making the right choices in terms of their eating habits. Plus, eating healthy should be fun! That’s why we want kids to submit recipes highlighting their FAVORITE RECIPE FROM HOME OR FAMILY RECIPE.
Judging will be based on the 7 following criteria:
Originality / Kid Friendly / Ease of Preparation / Healthy Attributes
Plate Presentation / Taste / Student Chef Presentation to Judges
Timeline of the event:
1. The flyer attached should be sent home with 4th and 5th grade students describing the event. Included with this flyer will be a link and QR code to submit their recipe electronically. (The Student Recipe Submission portal will open on January 22,2024.) Recipe cards are available by request should the student need that instead. Recipes must be turned in by February 9th to be considered for competition!
2. A distinguished panel of administrators will evaluate recipe submissions and narrow the number of finalists down to 1 student per school.
3. Those finalists will be formally invited to a Culinary Competition “Cook-Off” on 2/16/2024, tentatively scheduled for 10:00am.
The local press will be invited to take pictures of the kids’ creations and parents and teachers can view (and taste!) the final product during the reception portion of the event.
Transportation of the kids will not be provided on the 2/16/2024 for the competition. It is our virtual day so we hope you can drop by and cheer on your students. Kids will need to be dropped off and picked up at Central Middle School. The competition starts at 10am!
Each group of kids will have a kitchen staff member assigned to help them to ensure that there are no safety issues. This will ensure safe food and preparation practices are followed and no one gets harmed.
As a bonus, our competition is just one of hundreds of local and national competitions that Sodexo will be orchestrating across the country this school year. The winning recipe from each event will be entered to win a national competition in April. More details will follow, but we’re lining up some great prizes for those that are chosen to receive national recognition!
