NEW ORLEANS – Lawton Public Schools (LPS) was honored as a Grand Prize winner from the National School Boards Association’s (NSBA) 2024 Magna Awards April 7 in New Orleans. The Magna Awards have a long history of recognizing exemplary school district programs.
“The Magna Awards spotlight innovative programs that are making a difference for students and the communities where they live,” NSBA Executive Director and CEO Verjeana McCotter-Jacobs said. “These award winners serve as shining examples of what can be achieved when creativity and dedication intersect in the pursuit of excellence."
The 2024 awards recognize district programs that solved a challenge with creativity and out-of-the-box strategies. LPS was chosen for its Life Ready Center and partnerships “with educational organizations and universities to provide students introductory and advanced electives that enable them to explore several career paths.”
LPS Superintendent Kevin Hime traveled to the conference with district leadership to accept the award, accompanied by LPS School Board Members Carla Clodfelter, Patty Neuwirth, Elizabeth Fabrega and Zeldon Rice.
“We are always looking to improve the educational landscape for our students and future generations,” Hime said. “When our students walk across the stage, we want them enrolled, enlisted, employed. The LRC is just one pathway to help our students discover the opportunities they have after graduation. Our staff has done an amazing job!”
Winners were highlighted in the April issue of “American School Board Journal,” published online at www.nsba.org/asbj.
